Alcarras

Wednesday, April 12, 6 p.m.
ALCARRÀS (THE LAST HARVEST)
Carla Simón | E, I 2022 | 120 min | OV with German subtitles
With: Albert Bosch, Anna Otín
Every summer the Solé family has harvested the fruit of their peach orchard in Alcarràs, a small village in the Spanish region of Catalonia. But this harvest could be the last, as their plantation is facing the end: the peach trees are to be cut down and solar panels erected instead. The new plans divide the large, close-knit family. For the first time, the future seems uncertain to the family members. They are in danger of losing much more than just their orchard. Awarded the Golden Bear at the 2022 Berlinale.
"A masterpiece, intimate and political." El Diario

CLOSE
Lukas Dhont | BE, F, NL 2022 | 104 min | OV with German subtitles
With: Eden Dambrine, Gustav De Waele, Émilie Dequenne, Léa Drucker
What if young people find out they are different and love differently? Belgian filmmaker Lukas Dhont explores this question in CLOSE: His sensitively observed and hauntingly staged adolescence story centers on two 13-year-old boys who are actually best friends. At school and in their cliques, however, the two are increasingly confronted with their insecurities about discovering their own sexuality - with tragic consequences. Awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes International Film Festival.
"Beautiful and tender, a terrific film about friendship." The Telegraph

Friday, April 14, 6 p.m.
FOGO-FÁTUO (STRAY LIGHT)
João Pedro Rodrigues | PT, F 2022 | 67 min | OV with German subtitles
With: Mauro Costa, André Cabral, Joel Branco, Oceano Cruz
The year is 2069, and on his deathbed, the venerable regent Alfredo, king without a crown, recalls his dissolute youth as a firefighter trainee. The encounter with his instructor Afonso ignited a passionate love at the time - and a shared desire to change the social status quo.
The new film by Portuguese cult director João Pedro Rodrigues (O FANTASMA, O ORNITÓLOGO) is a wonderfully wild and perfectly choreographed mix of musical, folklore and queer revival story in the name of environmentalism - in other words, great cinema!
"Queer, inclusive, eco-conscious and frankly pretty pornographic, Portuguese director João Pedro Rodrigues' musical fantasy FOGO-FÁTUO was arguably the most fun anyone could have had for 67 minutes in a cinema during the 2022 Cannes Film Festival." The Hollywood Reporter

Triangle of Sadness

Saturday, April 15, 5 p.m.
TRIANGLE OF SADNESS
Ruben Östlund | SE, D, F, GB | 147 min | OV with German subtitles
With: Harris Dickinson, Woody Harrelson, Sunnyi Melles, Iris Berben
Carl and Yaya are invited on a luxury yacht and fall into the dubious company of super-rich passengers. At first, everything seems made for Instagram postings. But then a storm comes up, and at dinner the passengers have to deal with severe seasickness. The cruise ends in disaster. Several billionaires and a member of the crew are stranded on a deserted island. Suddenly, the hierarchy is reversed: The cleaner is the only one who knows how to fish.
Winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes. Oscar-nominated for Best Director, Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
"A brilliantly biting reckoning with the rich and beautiful. Most fun in a crowded movie theater." Next Best Picture
