La recta provincia

Am Land in Chile: Ein Mann lebt mit seiner Mutter auf einem Hof. Eines Tages findet er auf seinem Grund und Boden einen Knochen, der ein Loch aufweist und sich wie eine Flöte spielen lässt. Das Lied, das dabei entsteht, bettelt geradezu darum, nach dem restlichen Gebein dieses Körpers zu suchen – und ihm endlich ein christliches Begräbnis zu geben. Ursprünglich entstanden als Mini-Serie fürs chilenische Fernsehen, kürzte Ruiz LA RECTA PROVINCIA später auf eine immer noch dreistündige Fassung fürs Kino – mit der er sein Publikum, nach allen Regeln eines spirituell angehauchten Verwirrspiels, mit Folklore, Träumen und trockenem Humor überflutet. (Matthias Greuling)

In the countryside of Chile, a man lives with his mother on a farm. One day, he comes across a bone on his land that has a hole in it and can be used to play like a flute. The song that comes out of this almost beckons him to search for the rest of the bones of the body – and to finally give it a Christian burial. Originally created as a mini-series for Chilean television, Ruiz later shortened LA RECTA PROVINCIA to a still three-hour version for the cinema – with which he floods his audience with folklore, dreams and dry humour, according to all the rules of a spiritually-inspired game of confusion. (Matthias Greuling)
