Vier Jahre lang hat Nehm im abgewohnten Niemandsland von Pantin, in der nordöstlichen Pariser Banlieue nahe des Canal de l’Ourcq gelebt. Nun wird das Gebiet gentrifiziert. In einer erratisch-experimentellen, beispielhaft texturierten 16mm-Langzeitbeobachtung verdichtet Nehm, was das für dort lebende, arbeitende und spielende Menschen, oft aus geflüchteten Familien stammend, bedeutet. Nämlich im Rahmen eines futuristischen „Grand Paris“ Platz zu machen für am Computer-Reißbrett gezeichnete Design-Ateliers und Luxus-Maisonettes. (Roman Scheiber)

MUES is a film of many shadows and only few but glaring lights. It follows the transformation of an intimate place in the outskirts of Paris, home to immigrants and myths, into a prestigious real estate project. The journey of the building is mirrored in a hurtful switch from 16mm footage to a computer simulation. While mastering the risk to get lost in the jungle of voices passing the troubled spot that is a Parisian banlieue today, Daniel Nehm captures an “image juste” of contemporary transformation via the act of cleansing, ignoring and the destruction of dreams.
