Peter Kerekes  was born in Košice, Slovakia, and graduated from the Film and TelevisionFaculty of the Academy of PerformingArts in Bratislava, earning a degree infilm directing.In 2003, he directed and produced his debutfeature documentary, 66 SEASONS, whichbecame a festival hit and won severalawards, including the Best Film Awardat DocAviv.His next feature documentary, COOKINGHISTORY (2009), received the Prix Artenomination for Best Documentary at theEuropean Film Awards, among other plaudits. Kerekes's 2013 feature documentary, VELVET TERRORISTS, co-directed byPavol Pekarčík and Ivan Ostrochovský,won the FEDEORA Award at the KarlovyVary IFF and celebrated its international premiere at the Berlinale Forum, winning the Tagesspiegel Readers’ Award.
