Meritxell is part of a new generation of Catalan women directors whose work has gained significant international recognition in recent years. She developed CON EL VIENTO (2018), her first feature film as screenwriter and director, at the Atelier of the Cannes Film Festival's Cinéfondation. The film premiered at the 68th Berlinale and won the Silver Biznaga for Best Film in the Zonazine section of the Málaga Film Festival.
In 2020, she premiered TRANSOCEÁNICAS, a feature film co-directed with Lucía Vassallo, at the Nara Film Festival. In 2022, she premiered DÚO, which received the Best Director Award at the Málaga Film Festival, as well as LA CIUTAT A LA VORA, a short film promoted by the CCCB. That same year, she was selected for Berlinale Talents and took part in the prestigious international residency Ikusmira Berriak with LEJOS DE LOS ÁRBOLES (2026), her third fiction feature film.
Between 2022 and 2023, two festivals held retrospectives of her work. She was president of the Horizontes Latinos jury at the San Sebastián Film Festival and a jury member in Gijón and at SEMINCI.
Since 2007, she has been part of the international educational project "Cinema en curs" and has also worked as an editor on numerous festival films. Her new film LEJOS DE LOS ÁRBOLES premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in 2026.
