Maurizio Bini is the head of the Medically Assisted Procreation center at ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda in Milan, which also provides care for patients undergoing gender transition. It is the only public center in Lombardy that takes on this type of patient. There are hundreds under its care, with many more on the waiting list.
Dr. Bini has frequently spoken publicly in defense of patient rights and their access to treatment, opposing setbacks in legislation and hospital protocols concerning abortion, assisted reproduction, and gender transition. He is also the host of Let’s Talk About Sex, a highly popular program on a major Italian radio station.
Bini has an extensive professional background: he is the head of the Lombardy Gamete Bank and the Diagnosis and Therapy of Infertility and Cryopreservation Unit, a professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Faculty of Nursing Sciences at the University of Milan, and has published numerous studies on infertility and sexology. Whenever he has some free time, he pursues his great passion, mushroom foraging in the woods. During the preparation of the film, he accompanied Gianluca and Donatella on adventures beyond the hospital, from mushroom hunting to discovering the best Chinese restaurants (he holds a degree in Chinese Language and Literature) and exploring Milan’s hidden artistic treasures. A devoted cinephile, Dr. Bini is also passionate about art history, to which he has dedicated his second degree.
