Maria Fornayová

The mother of director Mira Fornay was born in 1942 in Skalici, Slovakia. She attended the Academy of Physical Education and Sport in Bratislava and worked as an oncology nurse. Later, she was committed to the Institute of Sport in Bratislava ČSTV and contributed to the establishment of aerobics in the Slovak Republic.  She also got involved in politics. She repeatedly refused to join the Communist Party. During the "Velvet Revolution", the system changes from real socialism to democracy in the former Czechoslovakia, she acted as part of the movement Public Against Violence / Verejnosť proti násiliu (VPN).
