TITLE

Laida Lertxundi is an artist and filmmaker who lives and works between the US and the Basque Country. Her films combine conceptual rigor with sensual pleasure in a process she calls “Landscape Plus,” drawing parallels between landscape and the body as centers of pleasure and experience. Her practice is collaborative in nature and aims to actively deconstruct the hierarchies of traditional filmmaking by freely exchanging roles behind and in front of the camera and staging improvised gestures and spontaneous, collective activities in different natural environments. In her work, Lertxundi engages with landscape as an artistic tradition and as a collection of regional characteristics, idioms and inhabitants – from the deserts of California to the dramatic mountains of her native Basque Country.
