Born in Porto in 1957. Worked for more than one hundred productions as sound engineer, for example for Manoel de Oliveira, Raul Ruiz and André Techiné. In 1988, he shot his first feature film UMA PEDRA NO BOLSO, followed by ONDE BATE O SOL (1989) and THE TRIPAS CORAÇÃO (1992). Together with Nuno Leonel he shot several short- and medium-length works, including the documentary RABO DE PEIXE (2003).
