João Nicolau, born in Lisbon, works as a filmmaker, editor, actor and musician. His films are regularly screened in the most renowned film festivals around the world: Cannes, Venice, Locarno, São Paulo, Belfort, Vienna, Busan, Buenos Aires, Seville, Vila do Conde, Angers, Milan, Montreal, Mar del Plata, Belo Horizonte, Valdivia, Roma, Sarajevo, among others.
Nicolau directed the feature films JOHN FROM (2015) and THE SWORD AND THE ROSE (2010), as well as the short films RAPACE (2006), SONG OF LOVE AND HEALTH (2009), THE GIFT OF TEARS“ (2012), and GAMBOZINOS (2013).
