WHEN LIGHTNING FLASHES OVER THE SEA
Eva Neymann, Ukrainian filmmaker (b. 1974, Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine) studied law at the University of Marburg in Germany and film direction at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin. After her successful documentary film GOD’S WAYS (2007), which received the German talent prize First Steps in 2007, she made several documentaries that were screened at various international film festivals (JUST LIKE OLD TIMES, 2004; DAS MEER SEHEN, 2005; GOD'S WAYS, 2007). In 2007, she released her feature film debut AT THE RIVER (2007), which had its international premiere at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. Her second feature film, HOUSE WITH A TURRET (2012), received the Karlovy Vary East of the West Award. Her film SONG OF SONGS (2015) premiered in the official competition at Karlovy Vary and won the Best Director award at the Odessa International Film Festival, as well as the FIPRESCI award in Fribourg, Switzerland. Her next documentary, PRYVOZ (2021), was selected for the Doclisboa International Film Festival in 2021 and showcased at many renowned film festivals, including Sheffield DocFest 2022, DokLeipzig 2022, and the Krakow Film Festival 2022. Her latest feature film, WHEN LIGHTNING FLASHES OVER THE SEA (2025), has been selected for the Forum at Berlinale IFF 2025.
