Das Weiterleben der Ruth Klüger portrays the Vienna-born American literary scholar Ruth Klüger in the four places that have defined her life: Vienna, California, Göttingen and Israel. She allows the viewer to enter her private milieu and share in her life, thought and work: her childhood in an anti-Semitic Vienna, her parents, her role as mother of two American sons and her opinion on the importance of memorial places. At no point in the film does she appear melodramatic or vain. Ruth Klüger’s way of thinking is precise and unsparing – both towards herself and others.
