First, the naive klutz Ted Rogers (Lewis) is in fact only the stooge, the stooge for singer Bill Miller (Martin), who wants to spice up his uninspired solo performance by a "spontaneous" action by an idiot from the audience. It takes some time after Bill recognizes that his insanely funny partner takes slowely over as the main act. Looking at the break of the real duo Martin/Lewis four years later, an almost prophetic conflict.
