Series of Thoughts, A
Eine Serie von Gedanken (“Miscellanea” IV–VII / “Photographie und jenseits” 15–18) consists of four parts: El Greco in Toledo, Leonardos Tränen, An Bord der USS Ticonderoga and Ein Museumsbau in Essen.
“Miscellanea” is what I call films that impose themselves on me during my work on other films and that also want to be made – without a commission or long financing debates. For example, the films El Greco in Toledo and An Bord der USS Ticonderoga grew out of two scenes in my 1991 film, Der Zynische Körper. There the images were marginal components of the story. But the necessity of viewing them more precisely lived on past the limited time of the feature film. “Photographie und jenseits” is my title for a series of films concerned with the active reading of pictures and spaces. That films are usually used to illustrate thoughts is a bad habit. That films stimulate thought simply because of the movement of their grain is a fact. That films can be components or independent motors of thought processes is a claim to be continually proven. (Heinz Emigholz)
On October 21, at 1pm in the Künstlerhaus there will be a screening of the English version of the film, on October 22, 6pm in the Stadtkino the German version.
