Based on the 1926 play by Maurine Watkins, who covered the real-life ladies of murderess's row for the «Chicago Tribune», Frank Urson's Chicago stars Phyllis Haver as the conniving Roxie Hart in a performance that contemporary «New York Times» critic Mordaunt Hall deemed «a most entertaining piece of work». The quasi-satirical tale of a jazz-aged woman's violent claim to fame remains a crowd-pleaser nearly 80 years after its release. This presentation features a newly restored print from the UCLA Film and Television Archive.
