THE MANY FACES OF COMRADE GELOVANI explores the mythmaking apparatus of Stalinism, through the career of Mikheil Gelovani, a Georgian actor of aristocratic descent, who repeatedly played Stalin in Soviet Cinema from 1938 to 1953. Episodes from his surviving performances are presented in a chronological order, alongside facts and apocrypha from his biography. Excerpts include works by directors such as Kuleshov, Romm, Kalatozov and others.
