I'LL SING FOR YOU

In the early 1960s, when Mali was newly independent from France, people woke up each morning to the voice of Boubacar Traoré, known as KarKar, on the radio, singing hit songs such as «KarKar Madison» and «Mali Twist». In his militant songs, he called on Malinese citizens to return to their country and be part of the reconstruction. Traoré became a synonym of dance, joy, and political commitment, before he self-exiled from stage for 20 years. Throughout the film, he remains in silence, while others emphasize his importance in the history of Mali. Traoré limits himself to singing and, each time, the air resounds with the suffering and the hopes of all of a nation.
