Reyner Banham also visits and praises the Eames house (1947-1949) at 203 Chautauqua Boulevard in Pacific Palisades, and it is generally regarded as one of America's great mid-20th-century houses. Charles and Ray Eames themselves chose to memorialize their celebrated house with still photographs accompanied only by a pseudo-jazz score by Elmer Bernstein. It is especially fascinating to see how real mid-century modernism differs from the retro version popular today.
