In 1967/68 Werner Schroeter began shooting films with his standard 8mm camera. He was, like Wim Wenders, one of the first students of the Munich Film School, but left after three weeks and preferred to explore the medium as a self-made filmmaker. His early films show his first experiments with filming the surrounding, performing in front of a camera, editing and combining film and music. Schroeter promotes his own “superstars” Carla Aulaulu and Magdalena Montezuma, and he also films himself. Schroeter’s early films are strictly personal and have rarely been shown outside of private screenings but they show all the origins of his later works. (Stefan Drössler, Film Museum Munich)
