EICH HIFSAKTI LEFACHED VELAMADETI LE'EHOV ET ARIK SHARON

HOW I LEARNED TO OVERCOME MY FEAR AND LOVE ARIK SHARON

Avi Mograbi, in direct address to the camera, recounts how his desire to make a film about the controversial Arik Sharon during the 1996 campaign (which Benjamin
Netanyahu won) cost him his marriage. A lifelong leftist who received a prison sentence for refusing to serve in Lebanon, Mograbi planned to make a highly critical film about a ruthless old warrior. He is successful up to a point, filming Sharon arriving and speaking at various functions. Sharon turns about to be a quintessential Israeli character: smart, funny, combative when pushed and a quick thinker. Meanwhile, the shadows of Yitzhak Rabins assassination serve as a sobering counterpoint to Mograbis faux innocent narration, wild nightmares and deteriorating home life. (Michael Fox)
