Breakaway
Antonia Christina Basilotta (aka Toni Basil) is a gifted dancer, choreographer, actress, singer, and film-maker (she created the Davy Jones black-and-white dance number in Head). Bruce Conner filmed her in Los Angeles in a demonstration of her balletic skills and set the dance to her debut recording as a singer, «Breakaway». It should have been a hit, but it was released the same week as Nancy Sinatra's «These Boots Are Made for Walking», a more brutish anthem of female liberation.
