LA BOHÈME

Werner Herzog’s unique version of a famous operatic aria. His moving yet enigmatic interpretation of Giacomo Puccini’s love duet “O soave fanciulla” is set among the Mursi people of Ethiopia. You might think that getting this giant of German cinema to match a Puccini aria is a bit like asking Tolstoy to produce a haiku, but the result is terrific. (Christina Patterson)
