La Présence réelle
The Real Presence
In addition to the film version of Racine's "Bérénice," Ruiz produced this festival film for Avignon in 1985, which deals with theater, play and reality in his usual intricate way. He sends the "unemployed actor Adam Shaft" on an exploration of the theater city, if only virtually. A nerdy girl shows him an "interactive videodisc" containing his future encounters and experiences at the theater, for which, unfortunately, he can't receive a salary because they are generated by the computer ... Did Ruiz know that his futuristic mind game would one day represent an incredibly real challenge for actors and actresses? (Barbara Kronsfoth)
