Continuing a remarkable banner year for Kosovo cinema, this wry celebration of sporting achievement and patient persistence was named Best Short at the Toronto Film Festival last month. As a table-tennis club is forced by external circumstances to repeatedly relocate across its city, the (mainly youthful) players’ odyssey unfolds amid the constant reassuring patter of ping-pong balls. The athletes’ pinpoint precision is paralleled by the elegant framing of the boxy 4:3 images in this subtly metaphorical study of talent blossoming in an unwelcoming environment. (Neil Young)
