Hardly Working

You might assume that the “Machinima” trend – repurposing computer graphics from pre-existing video games – had come and gone, or been swallowed up by commercial interests. In this instance, however, the “Total Refusal” collective grabs the reins of the 2018 Western game “Red Dead Redemption 2” and proposes a radically entertaining new version. The endless routines of the animated extras (“non-playable characters”) offer a pitiless parable of the lives of workers under capitalism. The message: “Can we start glitching?” The credits even thank Karl Marx! (Adrian Martin)
