Földszint
Ground Floor
Gábor Reisz came to international attention with his third feature MAGYARÁZAT MINDENRE (2023), which follows a student who gets swept up in his country’s political divisions. In his new film, Reisz reverses the previous one’s broad reach by going vertical. Set in a single apartment building, FÖLDSZINT is the story of Kristóf (Ádám Tompa), an average working guy who discovers that the wall behind his kitchen cabinet is covered in black mould. He has also just learned that his wife Vera (Bettina Józsa) is pregnant. Not wanting to concern her, Kristóf tries to deal with the problem himself, only to discover that, literally and figuratively, the rot extends from his ground floor flat all the way to the top. Reisz turns from the ideological struggles of the Orbán era to consider the more commonplace lying and corruption that pervades our daily lives. Kristóf is a Kafkaesque protagonist, demanding answers while trying his best to observe the rules of a faltering social contract. He is promised that if he refrains from making waves, everything will be okay. But everyone has their limit, and as Reisz shows, nothing firm can be built on a broken foundation. (Michael Sicinski)
On October 26th in the presence of Gábor Reisz and Ádám Tompa.
