For 36 years, VOLXkino has been touring through Vienna, bringing cinema to neighborhoods, parks, and residential complexes. This year, from June 5 to September 21, a compelling selection of feature films, documentaries, shorts, and animated films will once again be screened. With over 40 free open-air film events every summer, VOLXkino is an important part of Vienna’s cultural landscape and a true #kinofüralle!
For the first time, VOLXkino will cooperate with the Viennale. On selected dates, the GrätzlVIENNALE will go on tour with VOLXkino, bringing selected films from the most recent festival edition. The aim is to make film and festival culture directly accessible to a broad and diverse audience – free of charge, low-barrier, and in the heart of the urban landscape.
"The cooperation with VOLXkino is especially close to our hearts," says Viennale director Eva Sangiorgi. "It unites our passion for cinema with the desire to open it up. Together we create spaces where film is not just watched, but experienced – moments of sharing, gathering, and community."
This joint effort is an invitation to all those who want to experience cinema not just in a dark screening room, but as a vibrant public space – in motion, in encounter, in the city.

LE DEUXIÈME ACTE (THE SECOND ACT)
France 2024, 80 min, OV with subtitles
Director: Quentin Dupieux. Cast: Raphaël Quenard, Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon, Louis Garrel
Starring Raphaël Quenard as a cunning young actor and Léa Seydoux as an irritable diva, this absurd satire places them in a chaotic “film within a film within a film” directed by an AI that demands a report after every scene. Garrel and Lindon, caught in between, don’t know who to trust. A hilarious and unsettling Dupieux experience.

Can you really break up on good terms? After 14 years together, Ale and Alex try to do just that—with a party. Their friends are puzzled and hope it’s not really the end. But this witty anti-rom-com isn’t about reconciliation. With Madrid’s bohemia, Bergman-inspired tarot, and film-within-a-film elements, it’s clever, playful, and refreshingly unromantic.
