RETROSPECTIVE FROM MAY 12 TO 31, 2022

Ukrainian cinema has experienced an immense quality boost in these past eight years, which has also brought it great international renown. It is a young cinema that reflects the constant threat and the resulting insecurity in a multi-layered and exciting way. One that does not fall silent even in the face of hostile weapons.

A cross-section of current Ukrainian filmmaking since 2014 will be presented: a cinematography that has revealed itself to be enormously multifaceted, effective and exciting, especially in recent years at numerous festivals, and in which the state of exception has long since become the rule.

The retrospective at the Filmarchiv Austria takes place in cooperation with the Viennale and the Ukrainian Institute in Kyiv. For every cinema and exhibition ticket sold, Filmarchiv Austria will donate 1 euro to SOS Kinderdorf Emergency Aid Ukraine.
