Als Tina, aus gutem Hause, und Gerhard, aus der Arbeiterschicht, sich ineinander verlieben, haben beide bereits Suizidversuche unternommen. Weil das jeweilige Umfeld gegen die Beziehung ist, können sie nicht zusammenkommen. Also schließen sie sich einer Gruppe von Hausbesetzer:innen an, die gegen die bestehende Ordnung opponieren, und finden bei diesen zumindest für kurze Zeit eine neue Heimat. „Tristan und Isolde“ trift auf Punk, und aus „No Future“ wird „Leckt’s mi am Oasch!“ Nah am Zeitgeschehen spiegelt Kratz die politischen Zustände und Diskussionen im Land wieder – und erweist sich dabei mit Blick auf aktuelle Protestbewegungen als erstaunlich zeitlos. Vienna in the early 1980s: Tina comes from a middle-class family and attends a prestigious school. Yet soon she is admitted to the psychiatric ward of the general hospital after attempting suicide. There she encounters Gerhard, an apprentice plumber, who also wanted to kill himself—they both immediately fall for each other. But a relationship seems impossible, especially after Tina’s mother discovers that her daughter’s boyfriend comes from a working class background. Soon after Gerhard is fired and finds work in a youth centre, where he installs a badly needed heating system. For a short time, he and Tina find shelter there, attend rock concerts and encounter people who—like them—want to lead diferent lives and protest against the prevailing order. But soon the cops storm the area … In her big screen debut, prolific Austrian television pioneer Käthe Kratz not only reflects on the political and economic state of the country, but also proves quite timeless and visionary in the light of current protest movements around the globe.
