Anselm - Das Rauschen der Zeit

Einmal mehr nutzt Wenders die dritte Dimension, um wie mit seiner Bausch-Doku PINA dem Kino im wahrsten Sinne neue Räume zu öfnen. Während ANSELM das Leben des so bedeutenden wie polarisierenden Maler-Bildhauers Anselm Kiefer durchstreift, schweift der Film auch durch dessen eindrucksvolles Croissy-Atelier und zur langjährigen Wirkungsstätte in Barjac. Dabei will dies keine schlichte Biografie sein. Die Leinwand des Künstlers Wenders ist die Kinoleinwand, das spürt und sieht man in der kunstvollen Ton- und Bildkomposition, in der philosophische Gedanken zusammenfließen: über Mythen und deutsche Geschichte, das menschliche Sein und das Danach. In his second film of 2023, Wim Wenders returns to the same mode of intimate, yet expansive portraiture he employed in PINA and THE SALT OF THE EARTH, this time training his curious eye on the life and work of German artist Anselm Kiefer. Drawing on state-of-the-art 3D technology, Wenders has his camera rove through Kiefer’s cavernous atelier on the outskirts of Paris and his sprawling studio-estate in the south of France, using the artistic riches they hold as jumping-of points to roam yet further into the different terrains covered by Kiefer’s biography, career and artistic processes. In a fluid blend of archival materials and dramatic reconstruction, we thus meet Kiefer as a child, encounter the figures and historical contexts that have informed his work, witness the many highpoints of his creative trajectory and see straw burn on canvas and white bodices structure a landscape. All this is captured with a sense of free-floating immersion that feels entirely apt for the purpose: the portrait of an artist as a loose-limbered wander down countless paths that fork and twist, their intersections capturing the texture of a life perfectly intertwined with its work .
