SHEPHERD'S JOURNEY INTO THE THIRD MILLENNIUM
This film is the third part of Erich Langjahrs trilogy on the life of peasants at the dawn of the new millennium. From 1994 to 2001, he followed a family of shepherds on their way through the Swiss Alps. If it is first of all difficult to imagine that such a life can still be led today, one gradually begins to understand its astonishing reality. The harsh and powerful pictures, interrupted by very few words, owe everything to their direct confrontation with pastoral life. These characters move through a world that is strictly civilized. But this has not destroyed their dreams, which are still fertilized by the myths of a reconciliation between nature, the animal, and man. (Jean Perret)
