Actress Adèle Haenel to be Festival Guest
To open the 57th Viennale we’ve chosen one of the most outstanding films of this year. It is a work that – like the story it tells – is marked by passion and freedom and whose historical background has a retroactive effect on our present. PORTRAIT DE LA JEUNE FILLE EN FEU uses the intensity of a love story to bring urgency to the search for personal destiny and independence. The director, Céline Sciamma, gives us a work of simple elegance in which every shot, every scene, every sequence is right and necessary – as it is in love.

One of the great qualities of the film is the theatrical performance of the two leading actresses. We’re therefore delighted that Adèle Haenel will come to Vienna. And it’s a great honor for us to welcome one of the most interesting actresses of contemporary auteur cinema as a guest at the festival opening on Thursday, October 24 in the Gartenbaukino.
