Born in Cali, Colombia, he has lived in Montreal, Canada, since 2023. His debut film EL VUELCO DEL CANGREJO won the FIPRESCI Prize at the Berlinale (Forum) in 2010. In the same year, he was part of the Résidence de la Cinéfondation in Cannes. In 2013, he shot the short film SOLECITO (Directors' Fortnight, Cannes). His second feature film LOS HONGOS was awarded the Special Jury Prize at Locarno in 2014 and won the Audience Award at Rotterdam in 2015. EPIFANÍA, his third film (co-directed with Anna Eborn), premiered in Busan in 2016 and was screened at CPH:DOX in 2017. FAIT VIVIR (2019) won the Audience Award at the Cali Film Festival and was screened in Biarritz and FICUNAM, among others. His new short film YA SE VEN LOS TIGRES EN LA LLUVIA will premiere at the New York Film Festival (Currents) in 2025.
As a producer, he has been involved in the following films, among others: LA SIRGA (Cannes 2012), SIEMBRA (Locarno 2015), TORMENTERO (SXSW 2017), SAL (FICCI 2018), DOPAMINA (Jihlava 2019), YO VI TRES LUCES NEGRAS (Berlinale 2024). He was executive producer on SELVA TRÁGICA (Venice 2020).
