Bruno Dumont was born in 1958 in the north, in Bailleul (Flemish for “beautiful”). It was in this small town in Flanders, between Lille and Dunkirk, that he made his first two films, The Life of Jesus (1997) and Humanity (1999). Both feature films won awards at Cannes (Special Mention for the Caméra d'Or for the first, Grand Jury Prize and Double Prize for Best Actor for the second), which immediately established Bruno Dumont as a unique filmmaker who stands out from contemporary French cinema.
