Der Mann, der zweimal starb..., directed by Franz Herterich, originates from a story by Austrian journalist and writer Julius von Gans-Ludassy. The plot is a turbulent mix of motifs from Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas and the Abbé Prévost. An adventurer tricks the ward under his custody to get hold of her fortune and barely escapes the gallows. In a renewed attempt at killing the girl, he eventually becomes the victim himself.
