The giant Shengyang Smelting Factory was once the pride of Communist economics, with a history dating back to 1934. But things change: With more than 6,000 workers laid off, the mill ceased production in 1997, and awaited bankruptcy proceedings. Dismantling of the factorys equipment began in June 2000, and continued until March of 2001. This documentary, a tragedy of epic proportions, takes a close look on this economical and social disaster which deeply affects the lives of thousands of workers and their relatives who not only lose their foundation of living, but are furthermore driven away from their modest shacks by greedy real-estate developers.
