A film about the Jews living in Bukhara, the desire of some to emigrate to what they feel is a better life in Israel, and the will of the others to stay on, whatever the problems. In one memorable scene the people vote to the sound of lashing carried over from the religious rite in the scene before. (Rashmi Doraiswamy)
