Los is the second in James Benning's installation of three documentary films about the Californian landscape. like in the other two films, El Valley Centro and the not yet finished Sogobi, the directors employs the same method: 35 shots of exactly two-and-a half minutes' length are shot from a stationary camera. Los deals with Los Angeles and consists of images shot at largely unpopulated spaces, thus evoking a city landscape that would certainly surprise even the inhabitants of the city. As it's always the case with Benning's films, this is an extraordinary project generating extraordinary results.
