JOUR DE FÊTE

Tatis Schützenfest

In an idyllic village by the name of Follainville the preparations for an annual festival are underway. François the local mailman tries to help, but creates more confusion and disorder without being aware of it. After learning about the modern techniques employed by his American colleagues, François is consumed by enthusiasm. With a wild imagination and some acrobatics, he increases the efficiency of mail delivery in Follainville to an absurdly comic zenith.
“Jour de fête” is a superb example of “cinéma populaire” in which a portrait of rural life is created without folkloric sentimentality. Tati is set loose, bringing comic relief to the everyday idyll.
