Quando dal cielo
In QUANDO DAL CIELO, Italian filmmaker Fabrizio Ferraro rises to the challenge of filming music, or rather filming musicians in the midst of the creative act to reinforce the idea that the dimension of listening is active.
The film presents two recognized jazz musicians, trumpet player Paolo Frescu and bandoneonist Daniele Di Bonaventura, while recording the album In Maggiore with legendary ECM producer Manfred Eicher. The encounter between the duo and Fabrizio Ferraro developed over three years, as he first filmed the musicians separately in their places of origin, in the intimacy of their homes where creative processes originate, and later on their travels and at their concerts, where their musical ideas begin to take shape.
Mainly set in a deserted auditorium before ghostly empty seats, we witness the artistry and skill developed across days of rehearsals. Work in which research on sound, harnessing the instruments, and the collaborative construction of the musical structure become expressions capable of bringing the viewer to the heart of the creative process for an audience to come.
