Ming-liangs's trailer kicks off the Viennale in style

Since 1992, the Viennale festival has commissioned contemporary cinema’s greatest artists to make trailers. This year we are proud to present an exquisite miniature created by the Taiwanese filmmaker Tsai Ming-liang. It's a cinematic poem dedicated to Lee Kang-sheng, the actor who stars in almost all of Tsai Ming-liang’s films.

"When I found Lee Kang-sheng on the street, I invited him to be in my films. Since then, his perfect embodiment of an anti-actor has had a profound impact on my work. One day, to my shock, I realized I never wanted to move my camera away from his face, and it was then that I found the true reason for making films."

That's what Tsai said about his working relationship with Lee Kang-sheng in a recent interview and that's what his V'15 trailer is about. It’s a fine, minimalist work inimitably true to the filmmaker who made it.
