LE SILENCE DE LORNA
Le Silence de Lorna tells the tale of Lorna, a girl from Albania who marries a Belgian to get an EC-nationality. In the process she gets entangled in a mafia ring that arranges marriages for non-European nationals. The dilemma: her duty to the mafia, faced against the almost maternal affection she has for her drug addict husband Claudy. «Few directors offer the patient viewer such consummate rewards as Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, whose uncompromising, beautifully observed studies of Belgium's urban poor reveal a peerless talent for conjuring drama out of the mundane and wresting emotion from determinedly unsentimental material.» (Justin Chang)
