The film tells the story of Diushen Turusbekov, a ferryman who worked all his life at a floating brige. When a permanent bridge is built, he refuses to spend the rest of his life maintaining the newly-built construction. Instead he starts a new floating bridge up the river in the wild and sombre Kyrgyz mountains.
