MON ONCLE

Monsieur Hulot’s sister and brother-in-law live in an ultra-modern house which is crammed full of absurd gadgets and over-the-top amenities. When the old-fashioned and somewhat backward Hulot comes to visit, he experiences the blessing of modern life directly as a disturbing and absurd matter. Through his stubbornness and love of contradiction, Hulot creates impossible chaos and wonderful comedy, in the end even winning over his young nephew.

With “Mon Oncle” Jacques Tati went one step beyond his previous work. His attitude is more obviously critical, his examination of the idea of progress is reflected in the varied and stylized soundtrack, the spaces, the colors and the actors’ gestures. “Mon Oncle” is a work of unequalled humor and visual and acoustic richness.
