The Lookers

One person is sitting in an armchair and resting, another is building and adjusting, a third is framing images, a fourth studying. How many different ways can a person look, see and perceive? Peter Miller observes 20 moving-image artists, including Mara Mattuschka, Werner Nekes, Eve Heller and Peter Tscherkassky, doing activities that demand using the eyes. Be it proofreading with a frown, laying paving slabs in the garden without following a treacherous plan or sitting in a coffee shop with a newspaper, cigarette and beer – all these are simultaneously also miniature self-portraits and statements without words.
