Klimt
In 1918 Klimt, ravaged by syphilis, lies delirious in the hospital. His feverish fantasies take him back to the Paris World Fair of 1900, where he meets film pioneer Méliès, a mystical dancer and an ominous secretary of state, who from then on accompany him like shadows. Ruiz does not present a biopic, but rather a vision of the times, borrowing Klimt's ornamental style. Complex reflections and a camera that at times circles in time to the waltz, tell of shattered beauties, of deceptions and seductions. A masterful homage to the fin-de-siècle emerges from the experimental refraction of the classical film narrative. (Maria Marchetta)
