L' ÉVANGILE SELON LES PAPOUS

It was only fifty years ago that some of the tribes living deep in the jungle of Papua New Guinea had their first encounter with white men. This powerful but wry film is about one of those tribes - the Huli - among the very last to make contact with the outside world. Ghini is the leader and oldest member of the tribe and still remembers white men arriving in their amazing flying machines. For years the Hulis have held out against the missionaries who wanted to convert them, but come the year 2000 and the predicted arrival of the Messiah, salvation seemed the only option. So Ghini leads the tribe to give up their traditions - bigamy, ritual warfare - and turn to Christianity.
