GERRY
Gerry is very challenging on a number of levels. Its design and camerawork are formal, yet it is also at least partly improvised. Two guys who call each other Gerry go off for a drive into the wilderness, park at the roads end, and hike into the bush. This is the beginning of a trek that is both real and allegorical. The film is brilliantly photographed by Harris Savides, who, along with Van Sant, has created a visual masterpiece. In Gerry, every camera movement is controlled, every change in point of view is carefully chosen and considered. The film is propelled by the power of its visual imagery and utilizes an incredible array of shots and movement. (Geoffrey Gilmore)
