Special: Cinq Fois Godard
Jean-Luc Godard as seen by five filmmakers
In May 2014, Jean-Luc Godard presented his latest film, ADIEU AU LANGAGE(3D), at Cannes and once again took the film world by surprise with his ingenuity and love of experimentation. While the US blockbuster industry is about to say goodbye to 3D technology, Godard deconstructs this hybrid genre into its spatial and acoustic elements and uses them to build his own cinematographic world. A“Godardspace”,as it were, of meanings, colors, voices, sounds, writing and bodies. With ADIEU AU LANGAGE (3D), Godard, the untiring explorer and alchemist, has added a new chapter to his history of cinema. The Viennale is taking the film’s Austrian premiere as a welcome opportunity to dedicate a small film program to its director. For “Cinq fois Godard” five French film makers have been invited to name a Godard film that is special to them. With Agnès Varda, Olivier Assayas, Luc Moullet, Pascale Ferran and Jean-Pierre Gorin, five renowned directors have contributed to this hand-picked tribute and have selected five works from a great many. A happy few.
