SPECIAL ANALOG PLEASURE 2017: FILME VON SCHMELZDAHIN

The artist collective Schmelzdahin engaged in diverse activities, produced Super 8mm-films, undertook theoretical as well as simple practical research on film and organised film performances. This took place at a time when Bonn was still the capital of Germany and the Federal Republic’s hinterland at the same time. While all the buzz in the films made by the Berlin collective Die Tödliche Doris (Analog Pleasure, V’16) was in front of the camera, Schmelzdahin makes a point of tampering with the footage itself: For example, exposed film material from AUS DEN ALGEN is virtually fished from among the algae following months of storage in a pond, then rushed through the projector – after being dried and compiled in a collage of found Super 8 footage; this is accompanied by a crazy sound track, which adds another, very special dimension to the films. Schmelzdahin has produced incredibly haptic films of this kind, each of them a real experience. To date, all films have been distributed by the experimental film distributor Light Cone in Paris.
